What is the Coalition of Disabled People?
  • It is a region-wide forum
  • Each branch is a self-help group, registered as a charity, and run by disabled people for disabled people
  • Its main function is to work for the needs of all disabled people
  • Membership of either a branch of the Coalition or its Management Committee must be composed of 75% disabled people, drawn from this region.
The Coalition
  • Offers support to any disabled person, on any matter concerning them
  • Works for better access to transport, shops, public buildings, education, employment, housing, etc
  • Strives to raise awareness of disability issues
  • Acts as a central point for REPRESENTATIVE consultation between disabled people and other agencies including Dumfries and Galloway Council departments
  • Gathers and provides information on disability issues
  • Holds regular regional meetings

The Coalition is keen that every disabled person in this region knows about its work If you are not disabled, but would like to receive regular information on disability issues, you can still join the Coalition The well-being of individual disabled people across Dumfries and Galloway can be improved through having a united VOICE and by ensuring that the VOICE is heard in the right places

  • The Social Services Department of Dumfries & Galloway Council
  • Dumfries & Galloway Health Board
